"Do not be afraid to risk your lives by making space for Jesus Christ and his Gospel. This is the way to find inner peace and true happiness. It is the way to live fully as children of God, created in his image and likeness. " -Pope Benedict XVI

So during the last conversation I had with my youth minister he decided to give me a lecture/pep talk/advice about if/when I enter.

He told me to stick it out. He said he knew that because it’ll be a hard transition in the beginning and I may not fit in with everyone immediately I might be tempted to leave, because I tend to quit pretty quickly when things aren’t going the way I imagined them. But he said, Erin, you have to stick it out. Stay for the first year. It’s going to be hard, but after that year you are going to have the community you’ve always wanted and the formation you have been seeking for years.

I love that our last conversation, which was really supposed to be about him and saying goodbye and whatever, which happened too, but he still chose to encourage me, he was still my youth minister seeing the potential in me that I forget is there and knowing me well enough to call me out on my weaknesses.

It just makes me smile.

I had to say goodbye to my youth minister today. He’s entering his novitiate and by the time he is back into communication I’ll (God willing) be entering and out of commission. So this was probably the last time I’ll ever see him.

I feel like crap.
